It's worth noting that this gear actually works quite well. A few years ago there was an Everest expedition where one of the members wore replica's of George Mallory's clothing and found it was actually more comfortable and better fitting than his modern gear.
On the Everest theme designer Nigel Cabourn has a beautiful limited collection that reproduced classic mountaineering clothing including Mallory's wool 2 piece jacket and vest and Hillarys Parka.

You might enjoy the movie "The Eiger Sanction", 1975, a spy thriller with Clint Eastwood involving a lot of mountain climbing.
